In today’s current climate, sustainability is the buzzword of the moment that has been making waves throughout the fashion industry for the past years. However, there is no brand that is quite as sustainable as Californian-based brand Allbirds, who is going the extra mile to combat the proliferation of petroleum-based materials in apparel and footwear, one step at a time…
With the release of its brand new apparel range, Allbirds is soon becoming not only just a footwear brand with an ethical sourcing ethos but a lifestyle for the socially and style conscious. Their story began with superfine New Zealand Merino Wool, but have since developed a Eucalyptus fibre knit fabric and a Sugarcane-based EVA foam, which was open-sourced for all to use, including their competitors. Allbirds believes that collaborative development and the sharing of technologies will help protect the planet for future generations. Allbirds also became the first fashion brand to label its sneakers and socks by their carbon emissions, a feat that will hopefully make other brands follow.
The introductory collection features a variety of garments that come with their own unique story of how they were created. The Allbirds’s functional wardrobe combines next-gen natural textile innovation with an appreciation for heritage methods and high-quality materials. The unisex collection includes their TrinoXO™ Tee range uses a unique naturally derived fiber that is made from discarded shells from marine life. The wool Jumpers + Cardis with its oversized design takes its inspiration from the traditional fishermen’s sweaters. Finally, the Trino™ Puffer instead of using traditional synthetic or feather down, the sustainable Puffer is filled with Tencel and recycled polyester, creating an innovative and effective down- alternative. Avoiding all the oil-derived synthetic fabrics, toxic fluorine-based water repellents, and down fill that is traditionally used. The colours of the collection range from natural whites to forest greens, not only colours of nature but also tones that suit any season and mood.
As 2020 comes to an end, we look forward to a brighter, stylish and more eco-friendly future all thanks to Allbirds.
