On the occasion of the new Nike ACG Holiday 2020 collection, Numéro Berlin joined a virtual field trip with design director Nur Abbas presenting the collection’s key pieces, while challenging questions of sustainability, functionality and design.
Nur Abbas started his journey at Nike ACG in 2016 after studying in the UK and working at Gucci, Margiela, and Louis Vuitton as a menswear designer. Today, he is Nike’s Design Director for ACG and ISPA collections, and collaborates on NRG Apparel alongside other creatives such as Kim Jones and Martine Rose. For his latest men’s and women’s ACG collection, Nike used more than 90 percent recycled materials, adding to the environmental movement. With Move to Zero the brand helps protect the planet, by trying to decrease the amount of carbon and waste.
„Sustainability was our first filter for materials used in this collection, but we didn’t compromise the identity of ACG style or attitude; wearers can continue to be protected from the elements when exploring awe-inspiring nature, or even wear the apparel beyond a weekend in the outdoors”, explains Abbass.
Not too far away from its headquarters in Oregon, USA, the brand obtains its inspiration for the pieces’ names and this collections colour scheme from Smith Rock, a volcanic cliff that is made up of layers of basalt flows and older ash formations.
With this collection, Nike is introducing a hoodie and two jackets with GORE-TEX: a unique three-layer fabric which is breathable, waterproof, and windproof. One of these pieces is an insulted, packable puffer jacket. All materials are 100 percent recycled. The brand also added more women-specific pieces in the form of a vest, a crew neck, and pants. In addition to this, there are two shoe installments: The Nike ACG Fly GORE-TEX (releases on SNKRS) and the Nike ACG Air Nasu GORE-TEX (releases on the Nike App and nike.com) make for an ideal footwear to go hiking or mountain climbing in, providing ultimate comfort and stability. The latest Nike ACG Apparel is out on 12/11/2020 and can be ordered from either nike.com or the Nike App.
