Starting today Givenchy unveils a “teaser” capsule collection including the first pieces designed by their new creative director, Matthew Williams, that will be available in selected stores prior to the official release of the summer collection next year.
The “teaser” capsule carries an edited selection of clothes and accessories for both men and women. Females can expect new tailoring as embodied by long, fitted blazers with draped collars as well as slim and high rise trousers. It’s also worth mentioning the embellished denim with crackled or lustrous finishes as well as statement outerwear pieces including lightweight coats in croc-print calfskin bonded with nappa and voluminous urban windbreakers. Key pieces for men include a single-breasted jacket with an overlay collar, classic fit trousers, boxy shirts with zipping and snap closures, and an oversized parka in a technical ottoman that emphasizes Givenchy’s of-the-moment urban spirit. Thrown in the mix are the brand’s iconic Antigona bags with original yet discreet metallic details, which reflect William’s love of hardware in his designs.
The Chicago-born designer grew up surrounded by Californian skate culture and built a name for himself through his work as a creative director for Lady Gaga and his collaborations with Kanye West. As a collective including creative directors such as Heron Preston and Virgil Abloh, he founded his first streetwear label Been Trill which helped define his aesthetic. Since 2016, Williams has been creating hard-edged luxury clothing for his label Alyx with great international success.
The “Teaser” capsule collection premieres exclusively in seven Givenchy stores in Europe, Asia, and the US, as well as on givenchy.com in selected countries (Germany is one of the lucky ones!) from December 1 to 22, 2020. It will be followed by the first official drop by Matthew M Williams, for Summer 2021, which will bow across Givenchy’s worldwide retail network on February 26th, 2021.
