From Walter Pfeiffer, Viviane Sassen and Heji Shin past Jack Pierson, Jojo Gronostay and François Halard to Thomas Albdorf, Feng Li and Roe Ethridge (just to name a few) – the premiere of the Gmunden. Photo checks all the boxes regarding the international photography-scene.
For a month 24 different international photographers present their current work in 29 cargo ship containers on the shores of Gmunden, Austria. Every participating artist showcases their art in an individual container, that is supposed to represent the global exchange of goods, in this case images, that continues despite the pandemic. They represent our desire for exchange and travel, the wanderlust that we currently are not able to fulfill.
Next to well established photographers, such as Sassen and Pierson, smaller artist get to show their creative mind trough pictures. For example the artist Jojo Gronostay, who comes from Ghana and lives in Vienna, takes photos of heels of European women’s shoes that are offered on the Accra market and thus raises complex questions about identity and value systems.
In conclusion: A small and innovative photo festival that is definitely worth a visit. The exhibition takes place from July 10 to August 15 in Gmunden, Austria.
