For this year’s Pre-Fall collection Tommy Hilfiger partnered up with India Moore, non-binary actor and activist, who co-designed a special capsule collection. TOMMYXINDYA celebrates the diversity of Tommy Hilfiger’s global community.
“Great style knows no boundaries, and this has always driven my dream to create fashion for all” – Tommy Hilfiger.
That’s why he launched the People’s Place Program with the mission to widen the representation and create more creative opportunities for underrepresented BIPOC.
For this collection co-designer India Moore created garments without limitations. Most pieces are Tommy Hilfiger classics but reimagined to respect multiple gender expressions.
What does this collection mean to you?
Tommy Hilfiger: This collection embodies everything we stand for. It represents the next step in our mission to welcome all consumers. From the design process all the way to the campaign, the entire TommyXIndya capsule is here to make people feel seen, accepted and included. This message means so much to everyone at TOMMY HILFIGER. We’re so proud to share it with the world.
Indya Moore: This capsule goes beyond great style. It breaks a cycle and sets a new standard across the industry. Too many people are made to feel that something is wrong with them just for being themselves. It means everything to me to know that with our capsule, no one is made to feel wrong or different or broken. Everyone works perfectly for this collection, no matter who they are.
Where did you draw your inspiration from this season?
TH: We are always so inspired by our fans and the global community. By speaking out and engaging in dialogue, they play a huge role in shaping each collection. As a brand, we are here to listen and learn. Our fans let us know what change they want to see in the industry and world, and we do our best to move forward together and deliver.
IM: My own experience struggling to identify with mainstream fashion informed much of our design process. It felt amazing to have the brand trust my opinions and experiences. There is so much the industry can learn from the trans community, and it felt very empowering to be able to incorporate our unique perspective throughout the design process.
What role does comfort play in the collection?
TH: Comfort has taken on a much deeper meaning this season. Of course, it’s always important in our fabrics, silhouettes and fits, but we want consumers to feel as comfortable identifying with our brand as they do in our clothes. With this capsule, we want all fans to feel good with the shopping experience and in styles we’ve created.
IM: For so many people, simply existing feels uncomfortable. It was extremely important to me that the collection make everyone feel comfortable exactly as they are.
Which themes/symbols run throughout the capsule?
TH: There’s a huge feeling of nostalgia running throughout. We give a nod to some of our most iconic 90’s archive pieces, which had very fluid styling. We also look back by telling Indya’s personal story. Their hometown, the Bronx, is featured to recognize where they come from. Overalls and boxing shorts are another tribute to their childhood.
IM: Personal growth and evolution. We featured the lotus flower, which I feel perfectly represents the journey of the trans person in society. It begins in the mud, but through resilience and strength, rises through the dirt and blossoms into something beautiful.
What does inclusivity mean to you?
TH: Inclusivity means being representative of and accessible to all, and accepting everyone for who they truly are. It’s about having no barriers to entry – from the way consumers shop, to what they see in our campaigns, to the styles we design season after season.
IM: It means never discriminating against what you don’t know or understand. Inclusivity is about embracing everyone – learning from others’ differences rather than judging them.
How do you want consumers to feel wearing the collection?
TH: Confident. I hope everyone feels empowered to live as their full, authentic self in our collection.
IM: Sexy. Gender-neutral collections don’t automatically mean oversized and baggy. The point isn’t to hide your body – it’s meant to be a celebration of the body. We made sure to incorporate figure-hugging elements, sexy silhouettes and touchable fabrics like satin.
What is your favorite piece in the collection?
TH: I love the pin-stripe suit. It puts such a fresh take on a timeless look.
IM: The champagne, satin dungarees.
What three words would you use to describe the collection?
TH: Empowering. Iconic. Now.
IM: Real. Chic. Universal.
