Inspired by the traditional Ukrainian craft, the embroidery, the artist Olesia Trofymenko has created a dreamy set design for the Dior autumn-winter 2022-2023 Haute Couture Collection designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Curated by Solomia Savchuk in collaboration with Maria Alicata and Paola Ugolini.
Working with the theme of memory and eternity, hiding in the details of the traditional decorative arts and archival photographs, she pays a tender tribute to the Ukrainian nature, while the botanical details that punctuate the work celebrate the skills of Ukrainian embroidery masters.
Trees of life and the flower bouquets converse with one another in an the symbolizing entity of womankind, lushious fertility and a bright future. A symbol connecting Ukrainian visual culture with other religions and most mythologies, carrying the concept of the tree of life. Prosperity and life are hailed and celebrated to the fullest while establishing a careful connection between modernity and well-cherished tradition.
