#ZUKUNFT: CHAPTER II

Hublot is a Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1980 and based in Nyon. As the first and thus groundbreaking idea, Hublot combined gold with a rubber strap and a sporty case, the design of which is based on a porthole. This is how the art of fusion was born. It became the aesthetic and technical signature of the brand. This identity was reinforced in 2005 with the presentation of the Big Bang. It represents the brand’s unsurpassed expertise in com-plications, manufacture movements and top-quality materials. Titanium, ceramics and sapphire have been taken to unprecedented extremes in this model.
The Big Bang Unico Gourmet is created out of a material with an unmistakable grain, in a limited edition of 200 pieces. Damascus steel gives the case and bezel of the Big Bang Unico Gourmet an inimitable texture. Thanks to the practical Velcro strap fastener, the automatic manufacture chronograph movement has barely enough time to measure how quickly the watch moves from the wrist to the stainless steel work surfaces of the chef.
The material of the watch is a really unique creation. The watch is made out of legendary steel, called Damasteel. The legendary steel with the historical name Wootz, which appeared around 300 B.C. in the Damascus region, was known for being used to make especially resistant and sharp swords. Today, the term damask or damascus steel refers to a technique of making steel more resistant by folding, hammering and bending. Today the steel is used to create the kitchen knives that are particularly popular with star chefs. Now the same steel is used for the new Big Bang Unico Gourmet in a limited edition of 200 pieces. Hublot has chosen this specific design, because it perfectly matches the dimensions of the watch. The structure is based on the fusion of time-honored craftsmanship and innovation, developed by Damasteel. Thus, the bracelet is also inspired by the culinary world. It is made of the same fabric that is used to make kitchen aprons and can be conveniently opened and closed with a hook-and-loop fastener. Through that creation process the watch appears really bold and strong, giving it’s wearer a real powerful image.
The dinner took place at the beginning of October at atelier des Lumières in Paris. Chefs such as ambassadors like Anne-Sophie Pic, Yannick Alléno, Paul Pairet and Eneko Atxa took part at the event. Hublot wanted to bring two chefs together in the kitchen to make a fusion happen. Fused together were the instinctive and intuitive cuisine of Anne-Sophie Pic and the refined and experimental technique of Yannick Alléno. The result was a unique experience and menu. Not only the dinner was presented but also the wristwatches. In a menu, Anne-Sophie and Yannick brought together two essentials of their cuisine and Hublot’s way of thinking. The respect for raw materials and the pursuit of innovation. An interpersonal and tasteful encounter that produced an experience and a menu that can only be described as First, Unique, Different. One hundred invited guests were able to enjoy a moment beyond time and space alongside the chefs and their brigade. Eneko Atxa and Paul Pairet were at the table this time, participating in the unique experience on the other side of the mirror.
