TO WATCH: DEATH OF A UNICORN BY ALEX SCHARFMAN
“Death of a Unicorn” follows Elliot Kintner (Paul Rudd) and his teenage daughter…
Adoption, pregnancy, women
Martha (Lilith Stangenberg) feels like an outsider. Her mother (Jeanette Hain) is a strong, successful woman, and her sister (Zsá Zsá Inci Bürkle) seems to lead an ideal life in stable circumstances. But Martha herself? She just found out she’s pregnant after an affair with Sebastian (Samuel Schneider), a married man with no plans to leave his happy family. This tense situation forces Martha to question everything – including her pregnancy. Struggling with moral and social expectations, she ultimately decides to put her unborn child up for adoption.
Kida Khodr Ramadan, known previously as an actor, directs “HALTLOS” as his second movie. Departuring from his earlier work on gangster films, Ramadan teams up with writer Antje Schall to tell this powerful story of adaption, pregnancy, and womanhood. Exploring the complex character of Martha, Ramadan knew from the start that Lilith Stangenberg was the perfect choice to bring this layered, resilient woman to life.
Together, Kida and Lilith deepen the emotional landscape of “HALTLOS”, delivering moments of intense emotions and authenticity. The film is enriched even further by songs, written for the film and sung by Lilith herself – an element that adds depth and uniqueness to the movie.
Lilith Stangenberg describes Martha as a victim unable to conform to society’s expectations. The result is a story that exposes resentment, hypocrisy, and rebellion – an intertwined narrative with questions like:
Who am I? Who are you? Are you staying?
