“IN THE MIDDLE OF MADNESS”: JAKUB JANSA IN BERLIN
Under the title of „Subterraneans“, Czech artist Jakub Jansa presents his first solo exhibition curated by Anya Harrison in Berlin. Bringing together three films from his ongoing „Club of Opportunities“ series, Jansa uses metaphorical alter egos and a fictional society of human-vegetable hybrids to dissect questions of class, cultural identity and belonging. As Celeriac and Avocado navigate their place within the so-called Vegesociety, social hierarchies and the mechanisms behind them become both absurd and unsettling. Against a backdrop of political unrest and a Europe seemingly caught in its own contradictions, Jansa turns familiar power structures into a grotesque, humorous world of his own. „I would rather live in a world that is easygoing and everyone is chill. But this is not where we are. We’re in the middle of madness.“
“Subterraneans” opens on September 8, 2026, from 5 to 9 PM at Rudi-Dutschke-Straße 26, Berlin. The exhibition is presented by Prague-based KodlContemporary, founded in 2025 as an extension of the Kodl family’s 130-year gallery tradition, with a programme focused on contemporary art from Central and Eastern Europe.
